New Art-to-Table Dinner Series Puts Art on Your Plate at Grand Velas Los Cabos

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico (July 2, 2019) - At the Grand Velas Los Cabos' new on-property art gallery, artwork comes to life—on your plate, that is. The resort has launched a new weekly art-to-table dinner series, an opportunity to not only dine inside the gallery, surrounded by one-of-a-kind pieces by Mexico's leading artists, but to eat food and drink wine inspired by the pieces on the wall.

Beginning July 2, the resort will host its art-to-table dinners each Monday, welcoming up to 12 guests into the gallery to enjoy a five-course meal paired with wine. At a recent dinner, for example, guests were delighted to enjoy black shrimp aguachile with blue curacao, olive, and citrus dust, presented on the plate to mimic Mexican artist Yandi Monardo abstract blue-and-yellow canvas—and a "tikiin xic" style sea bass with onion and tortilla ash, which was styled to look as if the food was dancing, just like the figures in Alejandrina Calderoni's artwork. An accompanying wine pairing, including multiple vintages from Mexico's fine wine region, enhanced the meal.

At each dinner, the gallery curator will be on-hand to explain the art that has inspired the meal, while the chef and a sommelier will detail how they created the dishes and paired wines to complement the art.

Reservations are required to participate in the art-to-table dinner, which costs $150 per person.

Curated by San Jose del Cabo gallery owner Patricia Mendoza, the art gallery at Grand Velas Los Cabos opened in June. In its first month, it showcased works by Luis Filcer, Eduardo Mejorada, Carlos Larracilla, Jorge Moedano, Max Sanz, Reynaldo Zesati, and J.A. Platas, in mediums that included acrylic, oil, mixed media, watercolor, and sculpture. Each month, the gallery will rotate pieces from different artists. The art gallery represents another major commitment of the hotel to showcasing the country's finest art in different mediums. There's a permanent display of 25 pieces available for viewing in the resort's lobby and boutique, and original art is displayed in the resort's 307 suites. The gallery is open from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Saturday.
