New Gallery Showcasing Mexican Art Debuts at Grand Velas Los Cabos

Rotating Exhibits Complement Resort's Expansive Art Collection Throughout Property

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico (May 10, 2019) - Furthering its commitment to showcasing the finest of Mexican art in various media, Grand Velas Los Cabos has opened a new art gallery. The gallery complements the resort's million dollar art collection  featured throughout public areas, plus original works in each of the 307 suites. Exclusively curated by San Jose del Cabo gallery owner Patricia Mendoza, the gallery features many of Mexico's leading artists, including Cabo natives Yandi Monardo and Enrique Vascó. Works rotate on a monthly basis.  Renowned Mexican artist Alejandro Colunga complements work from American Matthias Pliessnig. A permanent display of 25 art pieces are available for viewing in the resort's lobby and boutique, while original art by local artists are displayed insuite.

In the first exhibition at the Art Gallery, Mendoza has selected works from Luis Filcer, Eduardo Mejorada, Carlos Larracilla, Jorge Moedano, Max Sanz, Reynaldo Zesati, and J.A. Platas. Mediums vary from acrylic, oil, mixed media and watercolor to sculpture. Renowned interior designer and Velas Resorts' Image Director, Melín Castro, selected Mendoza to spearhead the project,  "after an exhaustive search of art by different galleries in San José del Cabo". "Not only is Mendoza a leading expert in Mexican art, but also, she has lived and interacted with artists from the region for 11 years," said Castro. The Art Gallery at Grand Velas Los Cabos is open Monday to Saturday from 10:30 am to 6 pm . All art is available for purchase.

A display of art is featured in every corner of Grand Velas Los Cabos. Highlights include a 20 ft. high bronze sculpture from Alejandro Colunga entitled "La Silla del Mago" (The Wizard's Chair), hanging works from Oaxacan artists Rosendo Pérez Pinacho and Amador Montes, and paintings from Guadalajara's Luis Rodrigo and Francisco Huazo. Alone valued at $100,000 USD, two striking white oak benches handcrafted by Matthias Pliessnig also dress up the lobby. The sinuous forms each mirror the design lines of the other. Insuite, the resort features acrylic paintings, lithographs, gilées and serigraphs all from local artists.
